World cover reveal for Aliens Versus Zombies

My latest novel, Aliens Versus Zombies should hit Amazon in July. It's a most unconventional sci-fi/zombie hybrid.

The end of the world began with a neither a bang nor a whimper, but with pain. March 23, 2033 was the day the Tibetan hemorrhagic fever virus jumped species.

Eighty-two percent of the human race—more than eight billion people—died within six months, screaming as necrotic tissues rotted on the bone. Of the eighteen percent of humanity that survived the pandemic, nearly all suffered through intense fever that resulted in damage to the higher brain functions. They didn’t die, but they also were no longer quite human. Instead, they became ravening feral hordes, forever hunting for living things to eat: people, dogs, snakes—it didn’t matter. As long as it had a heartbeat, the zombies—for want of a better term—pursued and ate it. However these zombies were not the mindless, shuffling, automatons of horror fiction. They were something else entirely. They were fast, cunning, hunted in packs, and could use simple tools.

The remaining eight-tenths of one percent of humanity—fewer than eight million individuals worldwide—were immune to the virus. However, with the collapse of all governments and military they stood little chance of surviving long-term against almost two billion zombies.

And then, fourteen months after the plague struck, the Drahtch invasion fleet arrived with more than twenty thousand armed ships, two million ground troops, and a half-million colonists.

Mankind doesn’t stand a chance.

Or does it?

New cover to celebrate 9,000 copies sold!

It occurred to me that I should tout the fact that My Other Car is s Spaceship reached #1 bestseller status on Amazon last month by added a medallion to that effect to the cover. The new cover was finished the same day the book reached 9,000 copies sold. So it was a doubly good day. Here's the new cover:

Here's the NEW COVER for My Other Car is a Spaceship

So what do you think of the new cover vs. the old one? The old one was more colorful, but the new one is more exciting:

This is the difference between a serviceable but basic cover made by the author (due to time constraints) and one made by a professional artist. :) While the old cover was vague as to what the book was about, I think the new one does a much better job of showing that it's military SF/space opera.

Here's the link to the book on 12 Amazon websites around the world: http://smarturl.it/MyOtherCarSpaceship  The Amazon page still has the old cover. It'll take a day or so for the new one to filter down to all the sales pages.

First review for My Other Car is a Spaceship!

My new military sci-fi/space opera novel, My Other Car is a Spaceship, has been out for only four days, but it's selling like gangbusters. (Yesterday it hit the Top 100 for military SF.)

It just got its first review on Amazon. *****Five Stars***** The review is short but oh-so-sweet:

"A very enjoyable, action pack[ed] military [SF] against pirates. Well worth buying. I started and could not stop reading it. I will definitely buy the next book in the series."

The Imperative Chronicles, Books One and Two: clarification

For anyone who is more interested in the plot of The Tesserene Imperative (Book Two) than that of The Mars Imperative (Book One), or who doesn't want to get "hooked" on another never-ending book series, there is something you should know. These two books are only loosely connected. Yes, they're set in the same fictional universe, but the stories take place a decade apart, with different characters. And where The Mars Imperative is set in our solar system, The Tesserene Imperative takes place almost entirely in deep space.

For comparisons, think of Saberhagen's Berserker series (Berserker Throne, etc.) or McCaffrey's Brainship series (The Ship Who Sang, etc.), each with different characters and stories, with only slight overlap between them.

Therefore, either book could be read alone, or in either order, without affecting your enjoyment of them. I do, however, have plans for a third book to follow The Tesserene Imperative. I thought it would be fun to have an adventure involving characters from both books working together. (The working title is The Galactic Imperative.)

There is also the possibility some day of a prequel (Book 0?) to The Mars Imperative, set two decades earlier and involving two of the secondary characters from The Mars Imperative at an earlier point in their careers, but that's speculative at best. I have no plans for any other books in the series, so you don't have to worry about The Imperative Chronicles turning into a Game of Thrones and having to wait a decade for me to finish the series. Except for Book 3 (which would benefit from reading Books One and Two first), the others could be read in any order--or skipped entirely. (You wouldn't do that, though, would you???)

Book cover wars!

Hold the presses! We have another contender for the cover. Bear in mind that despite the whimsical title, the story is hard military/space opera. So which cover do you like better? One font probably fits the title better, while the other fits the story better. But which is more eye-catching?

The Mars Imperative is now available.

I'M B-A-A-C-K!

I'm back after a 4 1/2-year hiatus. I was pretty burned out from writing, editing, and promoting. I'm still not sure where I'm going from here, but I did finally get around to self-(re)publishing The Mars Imperative: Book One of the Imperative Chronicles since it went out-of-print in 2007, with a new cover and some additional scenes.

It's now available as an e-book on Amazon for the ridiculously low price of USD$1.49 for a limited time. I'll leave it at that price for a while before upping it to $2.99 or more. So now is a great time to get this highly reviewed novel of space exploration, terraforming, and terrorism.

At last: the cover for Sunrise Destiny

I've been waiting for this cover with breathless anticipation. Sunrise Destiny is my new paranormal sci-fi novel. I really put Shirley Burnett (the Art Director at Red Rose Publishing) through her paces until I got exactly what I wanted. (If you don't like the cover, blame me, not her.)

Click on the link above for the blurb and an excerpt, and on the image for a larger view. There is still no release date; I'll let you know as soon as I find out.

Let me know what you think of the cover!

Mark.

The Tesserene Imperative cover

I just got the final cover for The Tesserene Imperative from the artist, CJ England, and here it is. What do you think? (Click on it for a larger view.)

It does a great job of capturing two different scenes from the book in one (but I won't give away which ones they are; you'll have to figure that out for yourself).

This brings us o
ne step closer to completion.

Oh, and here's my new banner, with both covers on it:

The Mars Imperative book cover

Here's the cover from my first published book. It's not perfect (the color of Mars is wrong, I don't know what the blue swoosh is supposed to represent, and there are no stars in the background), but I'm just the author. I have limited input into the creative process of designing a book cover. 8^} At the very least, it's eye-catching, no? (Click on the image to see a larger version.)

If you look closely, you can make out the cables and the cars of the space elevator connecting the Orbital Docking Facility to the planet.)

Update: The Mars Imperative is now available on Mobipocket.com and Lulu.com, as well as the publisher's web site (shadowrosepublishing.net).

Mark.
